Project One:
Drain Jetting & Clearing.
The site:
Near Hereford Leisure Pool, in Hereford city.
The Problem:
The storm-drain running under the fields behind the Pool, terminating in the River Wye, was partially blocked with sediment & silt.

The site, on the bank of the River Wye in Hereford.
There was also a requirement to survey the interior of the drain to ascertain exactly where there were other drains connecting to it, and to check for any internal damage to the structure of the drain.
The Solution:
The drain required clearing along its entire length, using specialist high-pressure jetting equipment.
Mayglothling tankers, which were used extensively during the jetting operation.
Due to the location of the site, and the length and diameter of the drain, the logistics of the project required considerable planning.

Transferring fresh water from a tanker into the jetting vehicle.
Sufficient quantities of clean water had to be tankered to the site to satisfy the demands of the jetting equipment, and the resulting sludge, waste water and any water using traversing the drain during the operation had to be tankered away. A specific requirement was that the waste water and sludge were not allowed to contaminate the River Wye.

The jetting nozzle.
A jetting nozzle was chosen that would combine enough power to clear the drain, without causing damage to the lining of the pipework.

Inserting the nozzle into the exit of the drain, next to the River Wye.
The outlet of the drain, on the bank of the River Wye, was dammed-off, forming a pool. The waste water could then be pumped into a fleet of waiting tankers.
Jetting and waste recovery under way.

Specialist equipment was needed due to the limited access to the mouth of the drain.
With the jetting underway, the waste was pumped (using the hose seen on the left of the above image) out of the temporary pool area, into tankers for disposal.

One of the fleet of tankers used to transport the waste water to a recycling plant.
Once the first length of pipe was cleared, the jetting operation moved to an access point further along the drain.

Jetting continues via an inspection chamber located mid-way along the drain.

The Result:
The drain was cleared, a CCTV camera used to survey the entire length of the pipe, and a complete survey report sent to the customer.
